Guajira For My Father

As it’s title suggests, this piece is written in the afrocuban music style called guajira.  Guajira is the country music from the Western and Central provinces of Cuba. The piece is written in an ABA form followed by an open improvisatory section.  In the improvisatory section the left hand play a bass line harmonic pattern known in Latin music as the “tumbao” while the right hand is free to improvise over the chord changes.
