Description
Downfall of the Arawaks is a composition inspired by the tragic events that took place on the island of Puerto Rico in 1493, upon the arrival of the Spaniards conquistadores. In less than a hundred years, the native indigenous population on the island was virtually exterminated. Hence, Downfall of the Arawaks is a musical depiction of the tension and conflict that surrounded this tragic story. The piece is scored for solo marimba and percussion quintet.
