Juan Álamo
Marimba Soloist, Composer, Percussionist and Educator
“Álamo’s concentration and musicality cast a spell over the young audience….. and he was a charming presence in talking about the works he was presenting. A lovely and memorable evening.”
— Tom Moore (CVNC)
Through music, I find the purest way to express the full spectrum of human emotion—joy, love, sorrow, and the liberating power of freedom. It is my voice and my bridge to others.
Upcoming
I’m thrilled to announce my Fall 2025 Tour, with upcoming performances and masterclasses in Puerto Rico, North Carolina, France, Poland, and Spain! I can’t wait to share music, connect with audiences, and collaborate with incredible artists.
In addition, I’m currently developing an exciting new commission—a concerto for marimba and wind symphony, set to premiere in Spring 2027 at UNC Chapel Hill with subsequent performances in Latin America, Puerto Rico and U.S. This project is a deep artistic journey that brings together passion for Latin American music, jazz, and classical music.
Stay tuned for tour dates, project updates, and behind-the-scenes glimpses into the creation of this new work!
News
My new book, Marimbissimo: A Musical Guide to Chordal Voicing and Improvisation for Intermediate and Advanced Marimba Players, is now available through Musicon Publications! This guide dives deep into harmony, creativity, and technique—designed to expand your expressive range and unlock new possibilities on the marimba.
“Marimbissimo. It is an excellent book with all of the important info that a marimba player should know in order to be a better musician. In fact, Marimbissimo is the most complete marimba book that I know. “
